A group of ten sentenced of online harassment targeting Brigitte Macron

A Paris court has convicted ten people for engaging in the cyber-bullying of Brigitte Macron, the wife of the President of France, Emmanuel Macron.

The those on trial faced charges of circulating untruths regarding her sex and sexual orientation, in addition to publishing malicious remarks about the husband and wife's significant age difference.

The court handed down conditional custodial sentences of up to eight months to the perpetrators. The detailed judgment has still to be made public.

A circulating false narrative claiming that Brigitte Macron is a person assigned male at birth has existed since her husband's first electoral victory in 2017.

This latest legal outcome in France coincides with the Macrons initiating a libel case in the United States of America against conservative commentator Candace Owens, who has also voiced similar conspiracy theories about the Brigitte Macron's biological sex.

Their complaint alleges that Owens brushed aside substantial counter-evidence that refuted her assertions opting to platforming known conspiracy theorists.

Owens has regularly repeated these allegations on her digital program and social media channels, and in March 2024 declared that she would bet her whole career on her belief that Mrs. Macron is biologically male.

Brigitte Macron initially encountered her current spouse when she taught at his secondary school.

The couple tied the knot in 2007, when the then-29-year-old Emmanuel Macron was 29 and she was 54.
