🔗 Share this article Lando Norris Tops Piastri in Sao Paulo Practice Session Lando Norris has outscored Oscar Piastri at each of the previous five race weekends. The McLaren driver edged out fellow driver and title rival the Australian for the top spot in the closing stages of the practice session at the Sao Paulo Grand Prix. Norris, who grabbed the title advantage from his teammate by a single point after winning in Mexico City recently, beat the Melbourne-born driver by 0.023 seconds. Earlier in the session, Piastri had been the fastest McLaren driver for most of the session before sprint qualifying due at the evening session. The Red Bull star, the only other driver in the points battle, sitting 36 points behind Norris, was classified in 17th position as his Red Bull team ran a unique setup. His teammate Yuki Tsunoda was the only driver to go off, albeit lightly, when he spun at Turn Four soon after starting. Tsunoda slid over the track edges before rotating through the run-off area, and was fortunate to avoid just a minor contact of the wall. Ferrari's Lewis Hamilton also spun, at the final moments of the practice, spinning around through the quick descending corner before the final corner on to the main straight. The veteran ended the session in 19th, one place behind teammate the Monegasque driver. The McLaren pair were well clear of the other competitors, with the German's Sauber P3, over half a second behind Piastri's best. Aston Martin's the Spanish driver was in fourth, with Sauber's Gabriel Bortoleto fifth from Mercedes' Russell and Alpine's Gasly and the Williams of Sainz.
